In July 2008, after my return from co-directing (with Michael Bressler in Political Science) the Winter 2008 study abroad program “Europe East of the Rhine,” I viewed the 1955 documentary Night and Fog for the first time. Using some of Jean Cayrol’s rather moving text from that documentary, I decided to include my trip photos from Auschwitz and Sachsenhausen concentration camps in order to construct a short photo essay.
